Rhenosterkop Koiponds

I have always wanted some Koiponds and since I bought the place in 1995 it remained a dream. This is the view from my study window. With this series of shots I will take you on a timelapse journey.

By March 2007 the middle pond was almost at the right depth.

13 March 2007

2 April 2007 - Kingfishers made nests in the dam wall.

13 April 2007 - We start on the top pond to give the birds a chance to complete their breeding cycle.

20 April 2007

1 October 2007 - Pond one is almost at the right depth. Pond three at the back also at the the right depth.

During the next 12 months all the cement and plasterwork was done, water was added and fingerlings. It was in April 2008 that I watched the last kingfisher youngsters leave the nests and and we started building the walls, we worked against time to ensure all the walls were done before the Spring in order to avoid fresh nesting and breeding.

2 September 2008

6 October 2008 - This was the last shot of the big palm tree on the right, shortly after this it was hit by lightning.

26 January 2011 - The ponds are settling into the environment and the fish are happy. The Palm tree is dead.

3 October 2011 - The Yellow Iris is in full bloom and spring is showing us new growth.

13 June 2013 - Middle of the winter.
